Pet Urine In Your Rugs

We love our furry family members. But sometimes, they can really make a mess on your rugs. Did you know that they are very difficult to remove and after 24 hours, should really be handled by a professional? In the first 24 hours, you can generally get out urine by blotting it up with a white towel (using several if necessary) and using our spot cleaner. Any longer and it can set in the pad. Urine at first, comes out as an acid. After 24 hours, it becomes alkaline based. That change alone can permanently change the colors in your rug.

Odors can typically be removed right away or with a standard cleaning, however if not removed properly, when a cleaning is done it can ‘wake the stain’ and it can smell all over again. That is why it is very important to have a professional take care of the cleaning. We use several time-tested techniques to get the urine out of the rug (or carpet) by flushing it completely.

There are times when pet accidents have built up over months (or years) one on top of another and not treated, you may encounter what is known as dry rot. Which means the foundation or foundation yarns of the rug may not be stable enough to do a thorough cleaning. At that point, you will need to choose to replace the rug or risk the cleaning.
